Missal in the Ge'ez language
(The new 2024 edition)
Please note! With the exception of the editorial presentation note by the Prefect of the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches, Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti, the volume is entirely in the Geʿez language and does not contain texts translated into other languages.
Liturgy is the very soul of the life of a Church and of the pastoral care of its faithful. Likewise, the Maṣḥafa Qəddāse is an indispensable instrument for the Eucharistic Celebration, gathering the Christian community together in prayer and thanksgiving, in order to listen to the Word and share the Body and Blood of the Lord, which is offered in sacrifice to unite the Church in communion and for the salvation of the world. Therefore, the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches gladly accepted the request of His Eminence Cardinal Berhaneyesus Demerew Souraphiel, C.M., Metropolitan Archbishop of Addis Ababa, and His Grace Menghesteab Tesfamariam, M.C.C.J., Metropolitan Archbishop of Asmara, and has promoted and supported the printing of the new 2024 edition of the Missal in the Ge'ez language, which replaces the previous 1945 edition.
The text published here was carefully revised by a committee of theologians and liturgists from Ethiopia and Eritrea, with the aim of restoring and preserving the tradition of the Ge'ez Rite. The committee clarified the rubrics and made them consistent, preserving a deep respect for the authentic tradition of the Churches. The musical notes of the hymns in Ge'ez have been integrated into the text to further enrich the liturgical celebration.
